Dappen
Tarok- Players 6–8 players
- Deck Alpine Tarok
- Family tarok
A 6-to-8-player trick-taking tarot game from the Black Forest region of Germany. One player — the Dapper — plays alone against the rest, who form a team. Two contracts (Dapp and Solo) with an optional Challenge announcement on the Dapp that doubles stakes; the Dapper may also declare Ulti for bonus VP by committing to win the final tricks with trumps III, II and I. Card_points are summed using face values (5/4/3/2/1) with a one-point pair deduction; the opponents must collect ≥40 to win the round. Round VP awarded from a sliding-tier table; first to 300 VP (or 150 in the quick variant) wins the game.
Contracts
- Dapp — Dapper exchanges with the 12-card Dapp. The opponents must collect ≥40 card_points to win the round; if they collect ≤39 the Dapper wins. VP value taken from the 'Dapp' column of the sliding-tier scoring table (see win-conditions.json round entries).
- Dapp + Challenge — A Dapp contract on which a Challenge announcement was made during the Challenge phase. Stakes are doubled — VP value taken from the 'Dapp + Challenge' column of the scoring table. The Challenge mechanism is hybrid: it both attempts a takeover (challenger may replace the Dapper) AND doubles the stakes (whether or not the Dapper changes). Lineage: a fusion of Furtwangen 'Strecken' (takeover) with a Kontra-style stake doubler — Elsteiner Games house adaptation.
- Solo — Dapper plays without exchanging — keeps their original 7 (or 6) cards. Cannot be challenged: a Solo bid ends Round 1 of bidding immediately and skips the Challenge phase. The Dapp cards remain face-down throughout play and are added to the Dapper's card_point pile at the end of the round. VP value taken from the 'Solo' column of the scoring table. Despite multiplier=2 vs Dapp, the Solo column is not exactly 2× the Dapp column at every tier (e.g. tier 0–2: Solo 100 vs Dapp 50, exactly 2×; tier 33–39: Solo 15 vs Dapp 5, 3×; etc.) — the table is the authoritative source.
