Do you call Solo now, or wait for the Dapp?

Reveal answer

Answer

Pass on the Solo. For a Solo you should hold three or more Taroks from the XV up; you hold two, the Skus and the XXI, and with five opponents you do not count the three Kings as tricks. With this hand you should wait for round two. The Skus is a trump stop by itself, and the XXI with at least one other Tarok is a second one, so if nobody has said “Dapp!” before your turn comes, you may not pass, and the exchange gives you twelve new cards to rebuild your hand around the Skus and the XXI. The Skus, the XXI and the three Kings stay through any exchange, because Trull cards and Kings may never be discarded. If the Pagat and the Kclubs both sit in the Dapp, you hold the full Trull and all four Kings the moment you pick up the Dapp, win on the spot and score 8 Victory Points, or 16 Victory Points with a Challenge. The pass is still a gamble: a later player can call “Solo!” in round one, or an earlier player can claim the Dapp before your turn. You should accept that risk, because two Taroks from the XV up are enough for a claim but not for a Solo.
