Hungarian Tarokk: Example E1

HU-E1 Example

At a lively table, P2 stands on a bid that offers no real advantage over simply passing; by any normal count, P2's hand cannot support the level being stood on.

What are you most likely hearing?

Answer

The invitation system, not a mistake. In living Hungarian play, certain otherwise pointless stands and bids are coded messages, most often some version of “I hold the XXI, partner mine, come find me.” This book teaches the machine, not the code: recognize that the bid means something, and look up the full convention at gotarok.com/67 when you are ready for it.
