Calling the Twenty: Puzzle C4

CTT-C4 Puzzle

You are the Forehand. All three passed, and you make the final choice. Your hand: XI, IX, VII, VI, IV, Jhearts, Jclubs, 1hearts, 1diamonds, 10spades.

Do you keep the Call, raise to a higher contract on the ladder, or play the Dodge Round?

Reveal answer

Answer

Dodge Round. Count the hand: five Taroks below the XV add 1 each, and you hold no King, so the count is 5. The Call asks for a count of 9 or more, and a Solo asks for a count of 12. No-Trump asks for Kings and Queens, and you hold none. The hand matches the Dodge Round: only small cards, no big Taroks and no Kings, and the other three have all passed. The Rising Rule makes you beat the trick when you can. The eight big Taroks, the XV and up, and the four Kings are in the other hands. In the Dodge Round those cards win tricks, and the player who captures the most Card Points loses.
